Ford Edge Introduction :

The 2009 Ford Edge priced at MSRP: $26,635 – $36,605 is a five passenger utility vehicle. This mid size cross over offers a perfect combination of stylish looks, spacious interiors and a powerful engine.

Ford Edge Body Style :

The 2009 Ford Edge is styled with exquisite looks and is available in SE, SEL and Sports trim. The exterior body is well defined with the 20 inch wheel which adds to the look of the vehicle. The sports model is avialble in 22 inch wheels which is the first of its kind offered on any crossover. The sports model fetures Alcantara seat trim which increases the interior looks and gives it an edge over other trims. The headlamps and the smoked tail lights which are available enhance the external beauty of this vehicle.The interiors of the car are also well defined without any major notable error. The controls are well placed and simple and handy to use. The gauges and the available navigation screens are easy to read and use. The seats are covered with checkered cloth upholstery which gives a retro look to the interiors.

Ford Edge Features :

The 2009 Ford Edge SE includes full power accessories, air conditioning, reclining rear seats, atilt telescoping steering wheels, cruise control, and AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with auxiliary jack. The mid level SEL model further adds leather wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, fog lamps, six way power driver seat, satellite radio, and a six way power driver seat. The Limited model adds a dash of luxury with chrome exterior trims, dual zone automatic climate controls, heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, leather upholstery, a flat-folding power passenger seat, and upgraded sound system and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. The sports model further adds 20 inch aluminum wheels, unique body work, Alcantara seat trims and larger exhaust tips. There are various optional features which are available but they are tied only to a particular trim. The optional features cannot be brought in  conjunction with any model. The SE version cannot buy features such as voice-activated navigation system and dual- screen DVD entertainment system with screens integrated into headrests.

Ford Edge Performance :

The 2009 Ford Edge offers good performance in comaprison to other crossovers.  The Edge is powered by 3.5 liter V6 which generates 265hp and 250 pound feet of torque. They are available in front wheel as well as All Wheel Drive .the Edge offers a standard six speed automatic transmission. During the test drive the automotivecraze team reviewed that front wheel drive version moved from zero to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds which is average in terms of acceleration. We noted that the transmissions were disappointing at highway cruising speeds. We would have appreciated if the Edge supplemented the manuamatic shift.  There are no two thoughts about the superficial ride that this model performs. The 18 inch wheel and the good suspensions offer a smooth ride even on bumpy roads. The brakes are not very phenomenal and needs to be worked upon. During the test drive we noted that when the brakes were applied the stopping power was not as per our expectation.The Ford Edge offers a decent fuel mileage for front wheel drive is 17 mpg city 24 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined. The All Wheel Drive gets 15 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Ford Edge Quality :

The 2009 Ford Edge offers very spacious interiors and is very comfortable to travel. It is a five seater crossover and offers comfortable entry and exit inside the car. The interiors are quite spacious and can comfortably seat five passengers. It has comfortable leg room and head space and can comfortably seat tall passengers. The rear seats offer supportive and generous leg space and foot space seats with reclining seatbacks and centre consoles which are big enough to accommodate a laptop. Inspite of the reclining seatbacks the Ford Edge offers generous cargo space.Ford has well planned and added passenger grab, and a cargo management system to offer better cargo and passenger flexibility.The interiors are quite comfortable but the quality of the materials used is sub par. The interiors do not offer a very royal look nor is it very soft to feel. The cabin is outlined with hard plastic trims that look very cheap. During our test drive we found that when we drove the Ford Edge at high speeds the engine noise was very noticeable.
Overall the Ford Edge is very comfortable and spacious to travel.

Ford Edge Safety :

The 2009 Ford Edge is well equipped with the latest safety features and makes this car very safe to travel. The Edge includes basic safety features such as antilock disc brakes, front seat side airbags, full length side curtain airbag, standard electronic stability system with rollover mitigation, standard blind spot mirror, and the latest version of SYNC which adds 911 Assist without any additional fees. The Edge is well designed with low dashboard and chair height seats that offer good visibilty to the driver while driving. During the various test that were conducted to check the efficency of the vehicle it scored a complete five stars for driver and four stars for passenger in the front impact tests. Duringthe front and rear passenger side impact test it scored a complete five on five.

Conclusion :

The 2009 Ford Edge is a well rounded, fashionable car that offers tough competition to its competitors. It has the design of a crossover with the performance of the car. The main highlights of this vehicle are that it offers a good ride quality, quiet and roomy cabin, extra ordinary features like SYNC are included. The main drawbacks that were noted were that the interior styling and materials used were a little bland, brakes needed to be worked upon, fuel economy was not very competitive in comparison to other larger crossovers.
