In a statement from Toyota, the company said that, “The verdict of the US Department of Transportation’s investigation substantiates the dependability of our electronic throttle control systems.”

It should be known that Toyota recalled more than 12m vehicles worldwide in 2009 and 2010 because of several problems such as defective floor mats, braking software bugs, oppressive accelerator pedals and steering malfunctions.

The Software Driven Throttles were doubted for the unintended acceleration complainnts reported in the car.

But there was no such issue found during the investigation, and Mr. Ray LaHood, the US Transportation Secretary in his statement said on Tuesday: “There isn’t any electronic-based cause resulting in unintended high-speed acceleration in Toyota cars.”

US officials have also said that, the unintended acceleration in Toyota cars could very well be the result of the Mechanical flaws which were fixed in previous recalls of the company.

Mr. LeHood, said that, “We think that Toyota cars are absolutely safe to drive”.

Mr. LaHood further added that several engineers from US space agency NASA assisted the US transportation department in concluding the investigation.

He told that engineers from NASA rigorously examined nine Toyota tyres driven by consumers who reported the complaints of unintended acceleration and even reviewed the 280,000 lines of software code, to establish the causes behind the flaw.

NASA engineers also tested the electronics of the cars to see whether they can accelerate them using the electro-magnetic radiations.

Despite such vigorous investigations, Mr. LaHood said that the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) was thinking about new regulations for improving safety.

The new measures taken here could require the brake override systems, requiring incorporation of event data recorders, which are also known as black boxes and standardizing keyless ignitions.

The US officials also said that they will continue their research on electronic control systems and will be reviewing the brake pedals and placement of accelerator.

The recall of vehicles resulted in $48.8m of fine, for Toyota, which they paid to the US government for the handling of the recalls.
