Corvette C7 To Be Launched In 2012



There have been rumors about the next generation Chevrolet Corvette C7 from the time Corvette C6 has been launched.  The General Motors new model extravaganza in Detroit shared reports that the next generation Vette will be launched in the market by 2012.

It was earlier told that GM had put C7 Corvette on hold due to the company’s weak balance sheet and uncertain CAFÉ regulations as of late 2008.  These issues are now resolved and hence the company has taken the decision to launch the new model.

The report mentions the date of commencement of project as April 2012 and for sale as 2013. This is first step moving towards project details rather than holding it for indefinite status or an estimated 2014 debut that was earlier proposed. This is just moving toward pre recession plans.

There are very few details about the car that are known other than the production confirmation date. There are rumors that the C7 will be designed using mid engine layout unlike other GM models which are designed with front engine. There are guesses about the design and décor of the car that they would be designed using carbon fiber, aluminum and magnesium to maintain the rigidity and at the same time assist in keeping low weight.

As for physical appearances there are rumors that behinds the studios the GM designers are going to style the car similar to Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept that was shown at the Chicago Auto show. It is estimated that it would be not exactly similar but it would pick up appealing portions like the gills at the grille area and the fin-like structures at the rear to make a stunningly beautiful car.

There are other speculations about the engine that this new version will be equipped with a smaller, forced induction engine which will assist the car to offer good fuel economy and which is similar to those which are found in CTS –V’s LSA not the ZR1′s 638-horsepower LS9. They are also designing the car keeping in pace with the likes of Porsche 911 and Nissans GT-R and offering a dual clutch gear box.

There are assumptions that the new C7 will be an improvement over other designs and will add a feather in the cap of Corvette’s existing platform.

The only point of concern is that all admirers are concerned about the price tag that will be attached as this model is guessed to be more high tech.
