Daimler Enters The EV Segment
Oct 28, 2009 | Comments 0
Daimler recently announced that it has plans to revamp and expand its Rastatt factory by 2011. They have plans to invest over 600 million euros to update their existing premises before they launch the next gen sub compact and compact A and B Class Vehicles. The company has announced that they had plans in the pipeline for many years but finally they have decided to put it into works.
The most exciting part of the news was that Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche has confirmed that the next gen A class that they are going to debut will spawn a BEV version by the end of next year. The new edition will be a low volume offering in the initial stages and is tentatively called the A Class E Cell. Daimler has not issued a large amount of details about this new venture.
Due to Daimler’s investment in Tesla led to a figment of thought that Tesla might supply batteries to this new venture. However, both the companies are tight lipped and have not disclosed any details.
For now, we can rejoice and wait for the forthcoming era of EV’s.
