Seven times Formula 1 Champion Michael Schumacher has cancelled his eagerly anticipated Formula1 comeback with Ferrari because of the neck injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash this year.
He was supposed to join the Italian team at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on August 23 as a replacement for the injured Felipe Massa.
Schumacher confirmed that he had called Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo and team Principal Stefano Domenicali that he would not be able to step in for Felipe.
He says he had tried his best to make a temporary comeback possible but could not manage to take a grip on the pain in the neck which occurred after the private F1 day in Muggello. He had worked on everything possible medically and therapeutically.
The 40 year old German met with an accident during a German superbike test at Cartagena in Spain on February 11 – which forced him to abandon entering motorcycle races. He has revealed in his website that this was the most serious accident in his career span and that the crash had caused severe, fractures in the area of head and neck.
Examination results reveal that his neck is still not in apposition to stand the extreme stress caused by the F1. A strong neck is very important to face G forces.
The 38 year old Italian Luca Badoer, who has been Ferrari’s test driver for more than a decade has been selected as the next replacement for Felipe Masse.
Carlos Gracia, president of the Spanish motor racing federation has raised an objection for the team‘s decision to overlook its other tester, Spaniard Marc Gene who has just won the 24 hours of Le Mans.
There are various views of various people about who would be ideally perfect to replace the CHAMPION.
