Highlights Of The Tokyo Motor Show

The 2009 Tokyo Motor Show has been unveiled at the Japanese capital amidst an array of mid size concept cars and new cars. As usual this show made an open invitation to all automakers situated in any part of the world to come and view each others latest moves. This show witnessed the debut of some high profile vehicle manufactured by renowned automakers. This show offered a platform for hybrid and electric car concepts.
2009 Tokyo Motor New Cars
Honda CRZ Hybrid:
Honda previewed its CRZ which is new hybrid sports car edition that the company plans to launch in the first half of 2010. Honda has confirmed that they will start the production of this edition next year. The Honda CR-Z will be designed as a sporty two seat hybrid car that will reinforce the fun to drive values which has been associated with the Honda brand for many years. All auto fans will have to wait till this compact sports car will make its production debut at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.
Lexus LF-A:
Lexus has finally revealed its details about its super car. This super car will be equipped with 4.8 liter V10 engine which will generate 552 horsepower. It will sprint from zero to 60mph in less than 3.7 seconds. This super will be priced at a breathtaking price of $375,000. Lexus has confirmed that they will start production and sales of this unit from December 2010 and will produce only 500 units to maintain its exclusivity.
Toyota SAI Hybrid:
Toyota has launched its SAI at the Tokyo Motor Show which is a more affordable version of the Lexus hybrid sedan. The company has no plans to head to the US, but they have designed the car with a smaller body which is better suited to the Japanese driving conditions. The Toyota SAI will be priced at $37,600 for a base model and the $47,370 for the premium editions.
Mazda Kiyora:
Mazda has unveiled its Kiyora concept with its new SKY family of its next generation powertrain technologies. The SKY series would include Sky G direct injection gasoline engine, the Sky D clean diesel engine and an advanced automatic transmission. Kiyora is projected to offer fuel economy of 75 miles per gallon. Mazda has used newer technologies to achieve its goal of 30 % fuel economy by 2015. This ultra stylish, eco friendly hatch type car is all set to go into production very soon.
Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept:
The new Subaru unveiled at this show offers an impressive gullwing Hybrid which offers a perfect balance of sex appeal and an assurance to green values. This new concept maintain the company’s trademark symmetrical all wheel drive along with a boxer engine. It features a 2.0 liter direct injection gasoline engine as well as CVT and two electric motors. The automaker has well designed the vehicle and taken all care to offer complete safety to the passengers.
Toyota FT-86 concept:
Toyota has always desired to build a fun loving, light weight, rear wheel drive coupe. They have now designed a new car under a joint venture of Toyota Subaru. The Toyota FT-86 is a sportster which is also known as Toyobaru. With the end of Supra, MR-2 and Celica version, this Toyabaru edition will bring back the fun into Toyota’s road car range. It will feature Subaru’s 1,994 cc engine and will be priced at $25,000.
Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV Plug- in Hybrid:
The Mitsubishi Concept is an electric car which has been designed using latest technology. It has been made with interiors with glass that protects skin from the ultra violet ray radiation. It also has an oxygen enricher which helps to reduce fatigue while driving. The automaker has used PX code which signifies “Plug in hybrid crossover” while MiEV would refer to “Mitsubishi innovative Electric vehicle”. It would be equipped with different electric motors with SWAC (Super All Wheel Control), AWD and electronically controlled active yaw control. It would offer fuel economy of 117.6 mpg in a mid size crossover vehicle.
Nissan Leaf:
Nissan Leaf is an electric Blue five seat hatchback car which will be shortly launched in some parts of the US by late 2010. It is the first electric car which encompasses all standard features at an affordable price has impressed the auto industry. This electric powered mid size hatchback car promises to offer a mileage of 100 miles on a single charge. It would be capable to sprint at a top speed of 90 mph.
Toyota Prius plug in hybrid:
Toyota plans to get its Prius on the roads by 2012. They have plans to build only 500 of such vehicles to get gather real world data as to how drivers actually use them. These units will be distributed in US and Europe and some which who will used commercially to get a perfect feedback about this car. This hybrid drive system will be replace the 1.5L engine to the more powerful 1.6L unit. It would offer a fuel economy of 100 km on 4.9 L at city levels and at 5.22L on the highway.
Daihatsu Deca Deca:
Daihatsu Deca Deca is a micro mini van which can be used by families. It is ultra compact and measures only 133.7 inches in overall length which is even smaller that the Mini Cooper. The exterior body resembles a cargo van with a single door .It would be equipped with 1.3 liters three cylinder turbocharged engines and would drive through the front wheels through a CVT (continuous variable automatic transmission)
