Europe has tightened the emission law and laid huge penalties for failure to meet their requirement. This has made it compulsory for all European Automakers to cut emissions in the coming year or face costly punishments. Porsche has earlier not shown much concern for environmental impacts although Porsche fans would argue that their edition always have relatively low displacement with or without turbo charging and are high performing vehicles.
Porsche is now looking at introducing the Porsche Cayenne SUV and two models of Panamera edition. The company plans to launch the 2011 Porsche Cayenne S hybrid edition at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show which will be held in the first week of March. This edition will be available for sale in Europe by mid May.
It is expected that the Cayenne S hybrid edition will be equipped with a Audi sourced 3.0 liter supercharged V6 engine which will generate 325 horsepower and 324 pounds feet of torque. This V6 engine will be teamed with an electric motor running on nickel metal hydride batteries which would deliver an output of 51 horsepower and 184 pounds feet of torque. This engine would deliver around 375 horsepower with a combined effort.
The Nickel metal batteries are located under the hood and can travel up to a speed of 31 mph up to 1.2 miles solely on electric power. For offering a more comfortable ride this edition will be paired with an 8 speed transmission offering long gears at the high end. In top gear this hybrid edition can maintain constant speed of up to 86 mph on electricity alone.
The new Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid edition is quite fuel efficient and will be capable of offering a combined fuel economy of 28.7 mpg. This edition will accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds and can tow up to 7,716 pounds.
One major difference that can no be noted in between the Cayenne S hybrid and the gasoline edition is the addition of a lighter and easily packaged Torsen four wheel drive system instead of a multi plate clutch system. For all the operators who wish to increase the fuel efficiency can easily decouple the vehicles transmission when travelling on the highway.
All auto enthusiasts from US need to wait for the confirmation whether the edition will be launched in America.
