The initial version of VW Touareg has received mixed response from the buyers. There were many buyers who were disappointed due to the huge price tag attached to it while there were other buyers who did not purchase this edition due to its inability to seat seven passengers. VW has taken up this matter seriously and to woo its customers have decided to launch the second generation of this model.
The next gen model is due to be launched in 2011. The designers have crafted this model keeping all the flaws in mind from the original version. The new edition would be much smaller but will comfortably seat seven passengers. It will also be equipped with a range of more fuel efficient features. The designers are using aluminum to keep a check at the weight. It is expected that the next gen edition would weigh 400 pounds less than the current edition. This new edition would offer tough competition to the next gen Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7.
Earlier there were many prototypes that were seen on the streets which revealed many changes in the new model. It is expected that this new edition will feature a different intake system in the front which would be lower than the current edition. The images that were captured of the interiors reveal an all new instrument cluster and a steering wheel which is similar to the Mk VI Golf.
It is projected that next gen VW Touareg will be powered by a 3.2 liter V6 gasoline engine which would generate 280 horsepower with an option of 4.2 liter gasoline V8 engine which would generate 345 horsepower. All the engines are teamed with a six speed automatic transmission. The company has plans to add a hybrid model to this line up.
Volkswagen has plans to launch the 2011 Touareg at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show which will be held in January.
