Sneak preview: 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost

Rolls Royce had announced long back in 2006 that they were ready to unveil their new model which is positioned below the Phantom version however; very little news has been reveled from the company since then. The company has now released first official sketches of this new Rolls Royce version. These sketches revealed images which looks less traditional than their previous models.

The Rolls Royce team has designed the new car with new dynamism but keeping up with the true luxurious heritage. This new model is the 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost sedan.

The Ghost sedan will be approximately priced at $271,106 excluding taxes and delivery charges and will be available in Europe during the end of this year. It is expected that the company will start deliveries of this model in other markets like the US and Asia in the second quarter of 2010.

The company has received good response from the 200Ex version which was released earlier during this year and hence plans to design the Ghost sedan on these lines.

The 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost will be powered by 6.6 liter turbo charged V12 engine which would produce 563 horsepower and 575 pound feet of torque. The engine will be crafted to match the ZF 8 speed automatic gearbox. The high performance engine would be more powerful than the Phantom despite being positioned below it. The Ghost version is estimated to sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds at a top speed of 155 mph. This model would offer an average fuel economy of 17.3 mpg for a combined highway and city driving.

Even though it is planned that the Ghost model will be smaller than the Phantom model in dimensions, it will include chassis that are designed using latest technology. The new chassis management system is designed to control the car’s anti-roll stabilization and the suspension stiffness to ensure that it provides maximum comfort to the travelers.

The interiors are designed using finest materials which offer a contemporary ambience and maximum comfort while staying true to the Rolls Royce heritage. Everything from the carpets to the floor mats offers a luxurious feel. To add to the luxury is a premium audio system which would deliver 600 watts of sound through a 10-channel amplifier and 16 speakers, including two floor-mounted subwoofers. It is equipped with 12.5 GB hard drive that would assist in storing music files from USB or CD player source. The music can be listened individually with most headphones which offers privacy to each passengers.

The Ghost model offers options of seating arrangements in “Theatre Configuration” which allows all settings that do not directly affect the driver to be controlled from the rear seat. All the functions are well displayed on two 9.2 inch LCD screens in the back of the front seats. The screens can be regulated independently of each other.
